One of the first questions patients asked after getting braces or retainers is, “when can I get them off?” Depending on the severity of your malocclusion and the appliances used, the answer to that question is unique as the patients we treat! You can rest assured that we won’t keep you in treatment a day longer than is necessary to achieve your dream smile!
Traditional braces: If you have traditional-style braces, expect to be wearing them for 1-3 years. Treatment time varies based on the severity of your alignment issues and scheduling regular orthodontic appointments to tighten the wires. If a bracket should break or come off, have it fixed immediately to prevent extending the duration of your treatment.
InvisAligners: Using x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth, we will create a 3-D model that allows us to create a plan for the movement of your teeth. A treatment ranges from 18-30 trays that are replaced every two weeks. For adults, results are usually realized in about a year and the treatment time is comparable to traditional braces for teens. It is vital that you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day to achieve the quickest results and replace them at the regularly scheduled intervals.
ClearAligners: Similar to InvisAligners these accelerated braces were invented by our own Dr. Cronauer. ClearAligners can correct mild to moderate issues in as little as three to eight months! Once again, it is necessary to wear as directed to get the best results.
In-Ovation System Braces: Thanks to their self-ligating design, In-Ovation System braces are able to move your teeth quicker than traditional braces, thereby reducing the wearing time by several months.
Retainers: Once your treatment has concluded, we recommend that you wear retainers for at least a year after treatment to prevent your teeth from moving from their new positions. Failure to do so could lead to having to wear braces all over again.
No matter which appliance is chosen for your situation, the best results only come when you completely follow the directions for care at home. Failure to follow these instructions not only results in prolonged treatment, but could also cause damage to your teeth!
